Ep. 13 – How to Care Our Plants in Apartment

As an urban dweller who still wants to grow some plants in apartment, Oliver doesn’t know what he is supposed to do to take care of his plants. Do you also find the same difficulty?

How to Care Our Plants in Apartment
Alfa:
Your place is sooo cool, man!

Zahra:
And you got so much light, too!

Oliver:
Yeah, I’m very lucky to get this unit.

Padma:
(laugh)
Zahra:
No wonder Oliver went straight to Canopia and splurging for plants!

Oliver:
Ah yeah, about the plants, do you have any tips for apartment gardening?

Padma + Alfa:
Of course!

HAHAHAHAHA
All of them are laughing together
Watering Regularly and Evenly

Teks:
The soil in the pot can dry out faster. While apartment balconies can get splashed by rain, it's usually uneven so it's not enough to wet all the soil in the pot.

Check the water content in the pot by inserting your index finger up to the 2nd segment. Stir a little and lift your finger. See if there is any soil attached or not. If not, it means it's time for the plant to be watered.
Discipline and Proper Fertilisation

Teks:
Plants should be fertilised on a regular basis, e.g bi-weekly or monthly, according to the stages of their growth and needs.

Use a water-soluble fertiliser, so you can do it along with the watering schedule. That way, it saves your time and energy too, right?
Checking Any Potential Problems Early On

Teks:
Pests and diseases are the most common problems in gardening. And sadly, we could not have any help from natural predators to eradicate them in our apartment.

Perform regular checks along with the watering and fertilising schedule. Or, take the time to do it on the weekends with all the plants you have. If problems are found, immediately separate them from healthy plants so they don't get infected.
Regular Harvest to Spur New Growths

Teks:
Learn when you can start to harvest your crops. For leafy greens, they can actually start to be picked when they have several mature leaves, about 3 weeks.

If you plant fruits such as Tomatoes, Peppers and Strawberries, make sure to pick them as soon as the fruit is ripe. This can help plants to increase their production!
Padma:
You can try to grow some herbs for tea, Ver…

Zahra:
Or leafy greens! You can’t beat their taste with supermarket produce.

Alfa:
If you need the tools and materials, come to Canopia!

Oliver:
Alright, folks! Thank you...
Alfa:
If you worry forgetting your schedule, use a reminder app!

Padma:
Don’t leave your plants to dry out and die...
